ContainerMover
The ContainerMover revolutionises railway loading and enables flexible freight handling without a crane in minutes.
The ContainerMover enables an efficient, crane-independent rail loading process.
Container transhipment between road and rail is currently mostly carried out using cranes, reach stackers or at terminals. This costs time, money, and reliance on fixed infrastructure. The ContainerMover revolutionises this process: a loading system is mounted on a trailer to transfer the container directly between the trailer and the railcar – without a crane and in just a few minutes.
The advantages
At a glance
This is how the ContainerMover works
The ContainerMover consists of two mover beams that are driven under the container. They lift the container slightly and move it horizontally from the trailer onto the railcar or vice versa – all controlled by the truck driver via a remote control. The entire handling process takes only a few minutes and requires no external lifting or terminal equipment.
- The mover truck drives next to the train carriage.
- The driver activates the mover via the remote control.
- The container is slid sideways onto the railway wagon (largely automated).
- Once the mover beams are back on the mover truck, the next transfer can be carried out.
The only requirement is a siding with a shunt for several railway wagons and, next to it, a level, asphalted area with a minimum width of 3 metres.
The railway carriage adapter
Standardised wagon adapters are fitted to the railway wagon. These steel frames, secured to the container pins, are the counterpart to the ContainerMover on the railway wagon (without structural modifications to the railway wagon itself). They are easily removable if needed, for example, for maintenance or replacement.

Proven systems for demanding logistics
With over 350,000 transhipments annually, the ContainerMover is already an established part of Swiss rail logistics. This highly efficient and cost-effective technology thus promotes environmentally friendly transport modal shift to rail traffic.
The ContainerMover has been used successfully in practice for years.
Logistics companies use it to make combined road/rail logistics simple, independent, and efficient – even on shorter routes where traditional terminals are often uneconomical.
